Wills, Trust Planning & Powers of Attorney

Important and you haven’t done it, because no-one has…

If you die intestate – your spouse will get everything – right? Wrong. Having no Will is a serious issue, mainly when you die, of course. Should you die without a Will, intestacy laws will dictate the distribution method of your estate. For example for a spouse that dies, the first £250,000 goes to your spouse and then the rest divided in two, with the 50% distributed to the children of the deceased. Yes, you read that right. Their (and your, but not necessarily your children are getting 50% beyond the first £250,000).

Inheritance Tax Advice and Penion Options

Beyond that simple planning can save enormous amounts of inheritance tax, in particular through new flexible pension arrangements, but also a Will of course. That’s without even mentioning lifetime gifts.

Trust planning allows for more strategic decisions. Why, for example, pay multiple intergenerational inheritance tax bills? It simply is not necessary.

Using trusts, which have been active since medieval times, allows you to pass protected benefits of your estate to your beneficiaries, protected from the ravages of divorce and bankruptcy.

Simple and legitimate planning can prevent against claims from local authorities for paying for long term care.
